Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo

Chairperson of the Commission

Zondo has a 20-year tenure in the courts, first being appointed to the Labour Court in 1997. He quickly ascended the ranks to become Judge President of the Labour Appeal Court and the Labour Court in 2000, a position he served in for 10 years. In 2011, Zondo served in an acting role as a judge in the Constitutional Court for one year until his position was made permanent.

Dr Khotso de Wee

Secretary of the Commission

Executive director of Fort Hare Solutions at the University of Fort Hare, previously chief operations officer in the department of justice and constitutional development, previously acting secretary-general in the office of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, he should add administrative muscle.
 
 
 

Terence Mncedisi Nombembe

Head of Investigation

Chief executive officer of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), panelist on the High Level Panel that was established by the Speakers' forum to table a report on the impact of legislation in South Africa, chairman of the Gauteng Ethics and Anti-Corruption Advisory Council, a board member of the South African Reserve Bank representing government, and previously the auditor-general of South Africa for a period of seven years.

Paul Joseph Pretorius

Head of Legal Team

Paul Pretorius was admitted as an advocate in 1977. He took silk in 1994. Paul practised as an advocate at the Legal Resources Centre for a period of 5 years under former Chief Justice Arthur Chaskalson. He has acted as a judge in the High Court and Labour Court on several occasions. Paul specializes in Labour Law and Public Law. He is a mediator and arbitrator in all aspects of law. He is the chair of The Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa Mediation Division. He is a member of the Law Reform Commission on alternative dispute resolution and mediation.

Isaac Vincent Maleka

Member of Legal Team

Senior counsel, deputy chairperson of the disciplinary committee of the Independent Regulatory Board of Auditors, previously a judge on the high court and labour court, and also a panelist in the Cameroon Commission of Inquiry and the Hoexter Statutory Panel, and prosecuting counsel in the Motsuenyane Commission of Inquiry. Maleka is a well-known senior advocate who appears in prominent lawsuits.

Leah Gcabashe

Senior counsel, vice-chairperson of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates 2017/18, member of Advocates For Transformation and appointed as an acting judge of the high court in various divisions over the past eight years.
